Selected Research
About Me
I am a lifelong Southwest Ohioan, political scientist, educator, and public policy scholar passionate about strengthening American civic life. I earned bachelor's degrees from Miami University and the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Public Policy from Liberty University, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy from Old Dominion University. My research explores civic engagement, transparency, political behavior, and public trust, with a particular focus on how institutions can better connect with the communities they serve. Whether studying local government, elections, or public policy, I am driven by a simple question: how can we cultivate a more informed, engaged, and trusting citizenry?

As an Assistant Professor of Political Science, I strive to make government and public policy approachable, relevant, and engaging. I believe students learn best when they understand how politics shapes their everyday lives, so my teaching emphasizes real-world application, civic responsibility, and thoughtful dialogue. Beyond the classroom, I enjoy collaborating with fellow scholars, public officials, and community organizations to turn research into practical ideas that strengthen governance and encourage civic participation.
Â
Outside of academia, I am a husband, father, and lifelong learner. My family is at the center of everything I do, and much of my work is inspired by the kind of civic culture I hope to leave for future generations. When I'm not teaching or conducting research, you'll likely find me traveling with my family, exploring American history, visiting baseball stadiums, or cheering on the Orioles, Reds, Blue Jackets, Cincinnati Bearcats, and Old Dominion Monarchs. Above all, I believe good government depends on informed citizens, meaningful civic engagement, and a willingness to work together in pursuit of the common good.
Future Research Agenda
My research agenda explores how democratic institutions can foster greater civic engagement, strengthen public trust, and improve the relationship between citizens and government. Building on my work in transparency and local governance, my future research examines the opportunities and unintended consequences of transparency initiatives, the rise of performative politics and its effects on policymaking, the role of civic education in shaping democratic participation, and the influence of political endorsements and electoral behavior. Through both quantitative and qualitative research, I hope to produce scholarship that informs public leaders, contributes to academic knowledge, and offers practical solutions to the challenges facing American democracy.
